Punjab Government Considers New Extension for STI & CTI Contracts

Punjab School Teaching Interns (STIs) and College Teaching Interns (CTIs) are expected to receive a major boost as the Punjab government moves closer to extending their contracts after completing a detailed performance evaluation. The announcement has brought relief to thousands of interns serving in public schools and colleges across the province.

According to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, the government is currently reviewing the performance of all STIs and CTIs. Once the assessment is completed, the provincial government will formally announce the contract extension for eligible candidates.

The minister said that more than 90% of STIs and CTIs have shown excellent performance during their appointments. He appreciated the dedication of interns, stating that they have played an important role in reducing teacher shortages and maintaining the quality of education in government institutions.

Officials believe the extension will help ensure academic continuity while the Education Department continues work on long-term recruitment plans. Thousands of students across Punjab have benefited from the services of interns, particularly in schools and colleges facing staff shortages.

Although the government has confirmed that contract extensions are under consideration, the duration of the renewed contracts has not yet been announced. Likewise, no official notification or implementation schedule has been issued so far. The Education Department is expected to release complete details after the evaluation process is finalized.

The STI and CTI programmes were introduced to temporarily fill vacant teaching positions in government educational institutions. The initiative provided employment opportunities for qualified graduates while helping schools and colleges continue regular classroom activities without disruption.

Education experts believe extending the contracts of high-performing interns would be a practical step until permanent recruitment is completed. It would also ensure that students do not face interruptions during the academic session due to a shortage of teaching staff.

Candidates serving as School Teaching Interns and College Teaching Interns have been advised to rely only on updates issued by the Punjab School Education Department and the Punjab Higher Education Department. Any official notification regarding contract extensions, revised terms, or future recruitment will be shared through government channels.

For now, the government’s positive remarks about the performance of interns have created optimism among thousands of STIs and CTIs awaiting a final decision. An official announcement regarding the contract extension is expected after the performance review process is completed.
