The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education has directed authorities to speed up the investigation into the alleged Cambridge examination paper leak, saying prolonged delays are creating uncertainty for thousands of students and their families.
During a committee meeting chaired by Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, lawmakers reviewed the progress of the inquiry and stressed that students should not have to wait indefinitely for clarity about their examination results and future academic plans.

Students affected by the controversy also attended the meeting and informed the committee that the National Crisis and Crime Investigation (NCCI) is leading the investigation. They said they have been cooperating with investigators and are hoping for an early conclusion.
The committee instructed the investigating authorities to complete the inquiry at the earliest, emphasizing that a timely decision is essential to protect students’ interests and maintain confidence in the examination system.
Officials from the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) told the committee that investigators are examining 17 different examination components as part of the probe. They added that, so far, no official evidence has confirmed that a Cambridge examination paper was leaked, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The meeting also focused on academic integrity in Pakistan. Representatives from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) briefed lawmakers on efforts to strengthen anti-plagiarism policies across universities and educational institutions. According to HEC officials, consultations with education boards are underway, and a comprehensive implementation strategy will be finalized after the consultation process.
Chairperson Bushra Anjum Butt said plagiarism and examination misconduct can seriously damage the credibility of Pakistan’s education system. She stressed the importance of introducing stronger safeguards to protect students and ensure fairness in examinations.
The committee also discussed reports that some government schools were collecting donations from students for maintenance and repair work. Members expressed concern over the practice and decided to seek a detailed explanation from the relevant ministry. Teachers from the schools named in the complaints are also expected to appear before the committee in a future meeting.

The Senate reaffirmed that protecting students’ rights, ensuring transparent examinations, and improving accountability within the education sector remain key priorities. With the investigation still in progress, students are now awaiting the official findings, which are expected to determine the next course of action.
