CM Punjab Demands Report on Poor 9th-Class Results Across Punjab

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered immediate action over poor Class 9 examination results, with the Punjab government planning several measures to improve academic performance in government schools.

During a video-link meeting on school education, the chief minister directed authorities to take action where the Class 9 result is below 20 percent. The meeting also agreed in principle to connect teachers’ performance with students’ examination results.

The government is also preparing a new ordinance related to action against teachers associated with persistently poor results. Officials have been directed to present a detailed education reforms plan and timeline for the proposed measures.

Another major decision is the introduction of monthly and annual examinations across school classes. The aim is to monitor students’ progress throughout the academic year instead of relying only on annual examination results.

At the same time, the government plans to provide additional support to students who are struggling academically. Evening coaching classes will be introduced in government schools, while authorities will discourage the practice of removing weaker students to improve a school’s overall results.

The chief minister has also ordered that vacant head teacher positions be filled within 45 days. Authorities have been directed to appoint subject specialists in government schools and strengthen inspection and monitoring.

A new Unified Monitoring App has also been approved to help monitor school performance. District-wise monthly school ratings will be collected as part of the monitoring process.

The government will also introduce an incentive system for schools showing strong academic performance. Top-performing schools in each district will receive awards, according to the official announcement.

Meanwhile, the Library on Wheels pilot project will start in Lahore. The solar-powered three-wheeler library is planned to carry more than 20,000 digital books and provide students with access to video-learning lectures.

The meeting also highlighted the performance of Government Girls High School Bhon in Jhang, which secured the top position among the schools mentioned in the official briefing. Government girls’ high schools in Muzaffargarh and Layyah were placed second and third, respectively.

The latest measures show that Punjab is focusing on teacher accountability, regular assessments, student support and digital monitoring as part of its efforts to improve school education. The detailed reforms plan is expected to clarify how the new examination and performance-monitoring system will be implemented.
