Punjab has taken a step toward expanding technology-focused education in its public colleges by introducing a two-year Diploma in Information Technology (DIT). The programme is designed to give students an alternative route into the IT field without having to follow the conventional Intermediate pathway.
According to the information provided by the Punjab Higher Education Department, government colleges have been directed to facilitate the new diploma programme and begin the required admission process. The programme is being introduced in collaboration with the Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE).
One of the most important aspects for students is the reported equivalence with Intermediate in Computer Science (ICS). This means the qualification is intended to provide students with an academic pathway comparable to an intermediate-level computer science qualification, subject to the applicable recognition and admission rules.

The reported annual fee is Rs. 13,170, with the amount payable in two instalments. Students should confirm the final fee, available seats and admission requirements directly from the government college offering the programme because these details can vary according to official instructions.

The initiative comes as Punjab continues to expand digital education and technology-related opportunities. The Higher Education Department already manages a large network of public colleges across the province and provides online services for students, including the Online College Admission System (OCAS) for several intermediate programmes.
